Quite a hypnotic theme. While immersed in your flow, I mentally attached som motoric drums and Farfisa's organ to it—and the result was something reminiscent of Stereolab. Obviously, this isn't the only way to arrange this song; it's just how stereotypes work :)

Thank you so much for listening. Not going to lie… I had to google motorik drums and Farfisa organ after this and I’m going down the rabbit hole now! Thanks for this! And I do love Stereolab, so I’m taking this as a huge compliment.

I just wrote a note to myself “The stone tossed so casually in the river has ripple effects that last far longer than the moment it leaves the hands.” Your words remind me of that.

This definitely speaks to what I wrote and what I’ve experienced. The word “casually” is so important. Thank you for your comment. I really appreciate it.

Thank you so much for sharing this. The more artists I see here sharing rough cuts, the more courage I'm gathering for myself. 🙈 And this sounds really cool.

Thank you so much for listening. I really appreciate it. I started my Substack in October and it's taken me this long to get the courage up. I look forward to hearing your stuff!

I catch the vibe you are envisioning. That insistent ostinato is infectious, and I like the breakdown at 3:03. It reminds me of a modernized Riot Grrrl movement track, perhaps a touch of early Sleater-Kinney. The lyric is strong, I love that you’re burning it down at the end with I"’m lighting the match". It’s so great when the music comes to you fully fleshed like this one!

Thank you, Lisa. I really appreciate this. You got exactly what I was going for, especially with that steady pulse and the shift at the end. And the Riot Grrrl / Sleater-Kinney comparison is a huge compliment to me. Wow. Thank you for listening. :)

Congratulations on sharing a demo! It’s such a pro performance though — fantastic. I love how hypnotic this song is.

I really appreciate this, Jeff - especially the word “hypnotic”. I love that quality in songs so, I hope I’ve achieved that. Thank you for listening and for your support. Glad I finally did it. :)

Love it! What are your plans for recording the final version?

Edie Marie Webb's avatar

Thank you so much for listening, Madelleine. I really appreciate it. Currently, I’m working on getting six songs finished (I’m recording in an outside studio) but it’s taking a while due to scheduling, etc. Once we get the current six songs finished, we’ll listen to all of the rough demos and choose six more to record. Not sure if this song will be one of those. We’ll see.

Good luck with it all!
